Carpenter Electrification Contributes to World’s First All-Electric Commercial Aircraft
Last month magniX performed its first flight of the world’s largest all-electric commercial plane. The magniX team, together with their partners at AeroTEC, converted the magnified Cessna 208B Grand Caravan powered by a 750HP magni500 propulsion system into the eCaravan, an all-electric, low operating cost, clean aircraft. As an engineering partner, Carpenter Technology was there from inception and prototype stack production the propulsion system and continues to work with the team to scale the project to future mass production.
Following in the footsteps of magniX’s historic eBeaver, the world’s first all-electric commercial aircraft flying since December 2019, the flight showcased one of the world’s most-used Middle-Mile aircrafts, the Cessna Grand Caravan, going all electric. The flight paves the way to creating new opportunities to connect communities and transport goods while advancing magniX’s certification process bringing electric flight to market.
